Chacho Womack

Why not start the conversation early on?

With the realignments throughout the NCHSAA, there will be several teams that will have a chance to contend for a state title.  And though there will be favorites already heading into the season, we are looking at a few dark horses coming into the season.

And West Charlotte will be on my list.

Coming off a season in which they finished 10-15 overall and 6-8 in conference play, this looks to be a roster full of young and now experienced talent that will be taking the court this year. Though they are losing two key seniors in DJ Williams and Chase Bryson, both of whom led the team in scoring last year, West Charlotte has plenty of talent coming back, along with a new name joining the program.

Talking about the returning talent, we had a great opportunity to watch this team in action during our Phenom Team Camp in June, as 2027 AC Pressley and 2027 Christian Coleman will be two big-time returners who got a lot of valuable experience last year and should be ready to lead the way. But the list of talent doesn’t stop there, as 2028 Chacho Womack could be entering a new stage of his high school career. After averaging just under 10 points per game, he clearly has looked bigger, stronger, and ready to take the lead as a big offensive weapon. I expect him to make a name for himself throughout North Carolina this season even more.

And then you add possibly the biggest piece to the puzzle with the addition of 2028 Kaharri Coleman coming from Harding. Coleman has the talent and size to be a huge factor, as the 6’4 prospect can fill it up, score off the bounce, and be a true leader for everyone on the court. He has the talent to be one of the top talents in the state of North Carolina, and also could be trending as a national prospect.

With a mix of young, battle-tested returners and a high-level addition in Coleman, West Charlotte looks primed to turn heads in a big way this upcoming season. The pieces are coming together for a program looking to take a major leap forward, and there’s real reason to believe this team can be a serious contender when it matters most. Don’t be surprised if West Charlotte shifts from being a dark horse to a legitimate state title threat in the NCHSAA conversation.
