Jarrod Vaughn

We have spotlighted and written a lot about the young talent throughout the region as of late, especially from the Queen City Showcase. We have two more names for you though…

2023 6’4 Jarrod Vaughn and 2023 6’3 Khalil Genwright.

Both prospects attend New Hanover high school and showcased their potential in Rock Hill at the Queen City Showcase last week. Vaughn was the first to pop off in front of our eyes, as he showed his production, averaging nearly 13 points per game for the balanced squad.

He has tremendous size at 6’4 already on the floor and works with a great motor on the court. It isn’t hard to also see that he is a dual-sport athlete with his frame, as he also plays football. His early physical nature allows him to really get downhill and attack, finishing strong through contact and on multiple levels. He still has a ton of room for growth as well. When speaking to his coach, they had this to say about Vaughn.

“He is an interesting prospect.  He’s been bigger all his life and is transitioning more to being able to play the wing.  Strong, wide-bodied wing that is really efficient when he gets downhill.  Soft tough around the rim and possesses a good feel for the game.  He can hit from three but works better inside.  He has the ability to guar just about any position on the floor and isn’t afraid to bang with opponents either.”

Khalil Genwright is another, as the 6’3 prospect plays well as a combo guard.  He has the ability to play point guard and be an effective passer but also play off the ball and find ways to score.  Genwright has a strong body for his age, which usually draws two defenders.  He understands how to make the right plays at the right time for his team.

The duo will be back in action at the Phenom Challenge and certainly should be two names written down to watch in the coming years.
