For Tre Turner, he has always been the “little brother” of PJ Hairston, former player at the University of North Carolina and current NBA player of the Memphis Grizzlies. Bloodlines run thick and now Tre Turner is starting to write his own story. The two-sport star has seen his stock roar especially on the gridiron, but his heart belongs on the hardwood court and it’s only a matter of time the basketball interest matches the interest on the football field.

Fortunately, we’ve had the opportunity to track and monitor his progress and development over the pass few years. He has grown in height from 6’2 last year to a current height of 6’4, almost matching his brother. After a sensational season in both sports, Turner picked up football offers from Duke, East Carolina, Florida State, Louisville, NC State, UNC, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest. In addition, he is getting football interest from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Maryland, Notre Dame and Stanford. The list continues to grow daily since Turner is widely considered one of the top ten receivers in the country by various football-scouting analysts.

This past basketball season for Northwest Guilford, Turner was equally impressive on the basketball court. He averaged 19.6 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 2.7 APG and 3 SPG. He was named the HSXTRA Guilford County Public School Player of the Year, First Team All PT4A Conference, First Team All District 7, First Team Winston-Salem Journal All Northwest Team, and was selected to the NC Top 80 event for the second year in a row. We have always been impressed with Turner’s athleticism, skill set, maturity and poise. On the basketball side, the offers have not quite equaled those on the football side, but we strongly believe that is about to change. Currently, Turner sports one D1 offer from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, but is getting interest from Boston University, NC State, Maryland, Michigan, Richmond, Virginia, Wake Forest and Yale. In addition, Turner sports an even more impressive 4.0 GPA in the classroom. What schools wouldn’t want an athletic 6’4 scoring guard with plenty of upside, potential and additional physical growth'

While many basketball schools may be somewhat hesitate to offer Turner due to his popularity on the gridiron, scouting pundits may want to look at the history of his brother PJ. While PJ didn’t have the same amount of success as a football player, he finally went with his heart and followed a career on the basketball court. If history is worth repeating, schools may not want to make the mistake and not recruit Turner. Sometimes, it’s hard not to follow your heart.
