Ray Faison is a name that people will want to monitor this upcoming season at Christ School, as the 2020 6’2 guard came in prepared to display just what he was capable of doing at the Phenom WNC 150 in Cherokee, NC.
Faison has really started to become a consistent name for Phenom Hoop Report, continuing to show why he may be one of the more underrated guards in the state.
At the Phenom All-American camp and at the Phenom WNC 150, Faison was active, fast, and explosive, demonstrating a quick ability to turn defense into offense. He played above the rim all day long and was an active defender, as Faison’s grabbed the attention of our national scouts, something that he really wanted to showcase.
“I was looking to show my versatility in my game,” Faison said. “Mostly hustling on the defensive end and pushing the ball up the floor to find my teammates on the wings and cutting to the basket. I feel like I scored the ball pretty efficiently but focused more on other parts of my game like passing and being a pest on the defensive end because, in the end, defense wins games and gets your teammates easy highlights.”
Faison’s energy and mentality are just a few aspects to his game that should have college coaches’ attention. He is hoping that his performances lately at the Phenom Hoop Report’s exposure camps can kick start his recruitment. Right now, only a few schools have reached out but this upcoming season at Christ School could be a big one and allow his recruitment to pick up late.
“Both Mars Hill and Maryville have reached out and I’ve been in contact with them,” he said. “I started to play and train for basketball about five months ago, so I’m definitely behind with recruiting and the whole process and I haven’t had the chance to get exposure. That is why I’ve attended the Phenom camps.”
What did Phenom Hoops say'
“What’s not to like about an athletic, energetic and team-first “glue guy.” With Ray Faison, one thing is for certain, you don’t have to teach or coach effort. Effort, energy, and enthusiasm are in his DNA. Faison is the type of player that doesn’t need the ball in his hands to be effective. He will constantly do all the little things that often go unnoticed, but at the end of the game, you notice he has quietly scored double-digit points, grabbed numerous rebounds, made defensive stops and made all the hustle plays that turn into winning plays.” – Rick Lewis
“The all-around guard prospect has been the ultimate glue-guy during this camp. He’s smart, energetic, and is capable of controlling the action on both ends of the floor. Faison is a well-rounded athlete with IQ, skill, and rebounding instincts, making him a difficult matchup for most opponents.” – Jeff Bendel
