At the beginning of each new year, Phenom Hoops works to assemble a series of articles centered around unsigned senior prospects. Last season, over one hundred players from North Carolina went on to play at the Division I, II, III or NAIA levels, and that number looks likely to continue increasing with the current senior class. Typically, we take a closer look at guys who are overlooked and underrated, and today’s edition will highlight Micah Williams of Lexington High School.

We’ve seen Williams countless times with the Carolina Riptide, but most recently in Lexington’s battle against Bishop McGuinness, where we stated, Arguably the most productive and versatile all-around performer for either team, it truly was a shame to see Williams foul out prior to the fourth quarter. He led his team in virtually all facets of the game, setting the tone on both ends of the floor and working to seize every possession. Williams had some struggles offensively, but still found ways to create for others, dominate the glass (despite being a wing), and make a ton of plays defensively. He’s also more than capable in the open floor, both with and without the ball. Williams could be a fairly useful asset for the right college program.”

Although Williams blended in as a role player with the Riptide at times, his presence is completely different with the Yellowjackets. Not only does he lead and dictate the action, but Williams does a great job of affecting all facets of the game. He truly understands how to alter his approach based on team need. Williams is smart, unselfish, and capable of setting up others or carrying the scoring load, allowing him to consistently set the tone on either end of the floor. He’s an efficient scoring option from all levels, especially within the arc, and maintains a steady rebounding presence at all times. Williams pushes the break well in transition and makes quality decisions with the ball in his hands. Overall, he’s simply a reliable two-way player that should. Be able to find various opportunities to further his career at the next level.
