6’2 ’17 Jackson Farr of Charlotte Latin has been a regular of the NC Phenom 150 camp the past two years. At the 2014 Fall Evaluation camp, we wrote, “Jackson is a fundamentally sound player with a really good understanding of the game. He was consistent with his 3-point shooting and has good range. He can catch and shoot or create his own shot off the dribble.
The next challenge for Jackson is to transition to the PG position. He is crafty with his moves and has been well coached concerning team defensive principles.”
During his sophomore season at Charlotte Latin, Jackson was the team’s 6th man coming off the bench on a veteran team that reached deep into the NCISAA 3A playoffs. He averaged a modest 5.4 PPG while shooting 50% (41-82) from the 3-point line. Jackson had a season high 16 points against Durham Academy and was impressive in the team’s final game of the season before losing to eventual state champion Greensboro Day. In that game, he was the team’s second leading scorer with nine points going a perfect 3-3 from the 3-point line.
At the 2015 Spring Evaluation camp, Jackson showed flashes of good ball handling skills and a good looking stroke from the 3-point line. He changes direction extremely well and has show consistency in being a knock down shooter. His range of shot and shooting mechanics are strong attributes.
During the spring travel ball season, Jackson played with PSB Gold 16U and was the team’s leading scorer. We were able to see Jackson in the Phenom Hoops Grassroots TOC and the Phenom Summer Havoc. Each time, Jackson showcased his fundamentals and skill set. He has a soft shooting touch and average 16.3 PPG during the Grassroots TOC and 19 PPG during the Summer Havoc.
This coming season, Jackson is looking to diversify his game and become more of a combo guard helping out with the PG responsibilities for Charlotte Latin. He should move rather easily into the starting lineup and become a main clog in the Latin offense. We wouldn’t be surprised if he is the team’s leading scorer. Jackson’s basketball IQ and understanding of the game are high level. He has excellent shot selection and is efficient with his perimeter shooting.
Off the court, Jackson is an extremely hard worker in the classroom. He sports an amazing 4.2 GPA at Charlotte Latin, which is one of the top academic high schools in the state. Off the court and classroom, Jackson is a very humble and polite young man. He has excellent manners and will always respond with a “thank you” and a “yes sir” answer. He gives you direct eye contact and lets you know he is listening which shows maturity.
We strongly feel Jackson should and will become a high priority for D3 schools. He combines a great attitude and work ethic that will make him successful in the classroom as well as the basketball court.
