Talking about another player that should be highly-coveted by D1 programs, 6’6 Ryan Blount announced he has entered the transfer portal, and he should be a hot name for many. Blount was one that Phenom Hoops RAVED about years ago, saying college coaches should be all over this young man.

One can see what was said below from our scouts, as he was carving out impressive performance after impressive performance on our platform.

Blount would consistently stand out with his production, toughness, and relentless motor on the court. He plays with a physical edge and a high basketball IQ, remaining active and engaged in every possession. What really separates him is his mindset—he competes with the intent to outwork opponents and does whatever it takes to help his team succeed. Though he may not have overwhelming size, Blount plays bigger than his measurements suggest. He makes his presence felt around the basket by using his strength to finish through contact, attacking the glass to create second-chance opportunities, and drawing fouls with his aggressive approach. But again, that is just part of his game, as he is quite comfortable from the perimeter, hitting 77 3-pointers this year on 41 percent shooting.

There is no doubt about it, our mind hasn’t changed… Blount is a D1 target that many schools should be targeting in the transfer portal, and they will be getting a player who will outwork many on the court.

What Was Said by Phenom Hoops Back Then:

“Another event, another productive weekend for the 2024 6’5 prospect in Ryan Blount.  When you truly sit down and watch this young man, Blount is one who won’t blow you away with all the flash, but he will be the one putting in the work on the court. Super productive, physical, hard-working, smart, and always engaged, Blount is a player that I truly believe college coaches need to look at and will be impressed with the mindset that he brings to the table. You can see that he wants to outwork his opponents and will do what is needed for his team to win.  He isn’t the biggest prospect, but he plays bigger than listed. Blount does an exceptional job in being a force around the basket, whether it is being physical and finishing, attacking the boards for second-chance opportunities, or finding ways to get to the line.  But he also does a great job in putting the ball on the deck, finding ways to put the ball in the hoop, and being able to score from multiple levels.”

“Blount was a new name that came to our platform and walked away with a ton of buzz with our scouts with what he showed. He was terrific throughout the event, as he finished with outings of 19, 26, 28, and 18, and he couldn’t be stopped for much of the event. Blount is a strong and sturdy wing/forward who has a tremendous skillset but also backs that up with production. A double-double type player, he plays with a ton of tenacity and confidence, not backing down from anyone and playing with something to prove. Whether it was his ability to step out and knock down shots, use his body to battle down in the paint, attack the glass for putbacks, or make smart decisions within the offense, Blount was special with his play and should see more traction with college programs quickly.”
