This weekend, Phenom Hoops will travel out to Lincolnton High School in Lincolnton, North Carolina, for another loaded event. The seven-game slate features a lot of intriguing matchups, both team and individual, and a slew of talented prospects. As we rapidly approach the new year, each game becomes that much more important. Let’s take a closer look at some of the top storylines…
Inevitably the most anticipated game of the day features the return of LJ Smith (Ohio State commit) back at his former high school gym. He and Oak Hill will face off against a talented, veteran-laden Providence Day School roster. In addition to the lethal scoring punch from Smith, this Oak Hill group features Ethan Mgbako (Vanderbilt commit), Donovan Williams (UCF commit), Korie Corbett, and Janon Singh. It probably goes without saying, but they should have the most talent of any team on display.
Meanwhile, the Chargers are led by a quality collection of next-level pieces. Juniors Dylan Bradley and Columbus Parker handle most of the creation duties. Bradley is a strong-bodied guard who excels at getting downhill and attacking the basket. He’s a capable playmaker and shooting threat. Parker offers a steady, well-rounded presence with the ability to hit shots, create for others, or put pressure on the rim. Zeke Battier continues to highlight growth in all areas of the game. He has the size, skill, and instincts to impact the game on both ends of the floor. Seniors Aidan Scruitsky and Deuce Haynes carry a meaningful load for this group. Scruitsky is a lethal shooter with size, feel, and the ability to spot up or attack closeouts. Haynes is a nice two-way big man who consistently finishes, rebounds, and battles defensively. Guys like Leighton Myers and John Stokes also provide solid minutes for this squad.
