This weekend, Phenom Hoops will be hosting events in three different locations. Between the Freedom 828 Showcase, Ish Smith Showcase, and Tourney Town Showcase, there’s a ton of quality hoops throughout North Carolina. Now with the season fully underway, folks have a clearer understanding surrounding the “who’s who” in the high school scene. Each event brings its own set of storylines, matchups, and notable prospects on display. Let’s take a closer look at each, moving onto the Ish Smith Showcase…
Although the field is loaded with a variety of intriguing teams and matchups, North Meck is arguably the most dominant team on display. They’ll face off against Terry Sanford, one of the top women’s programs in North Carolina over the recent years, in hopes of remaining perfect on the season. However, the Bulldogs have the talent to compete with anyone.
It doesn’t take more than a quick glance to recognize that the Lady Vikings roster is absolutely loaded. Lenise Joseph is an absolute two-way force who completely dominates and outproduces seemingly every opponent. Morgan Knox is a strong, physically overwhelming guard who plays with incredible toughness and unselfishness. Stephanie Mobley is a senior leader and focal point who defends, knocks down shots, and runs the team effectively. Other guards like Naijaalia Blake and Jayla Wyke play vital roles as smart, scrappy, well-rounded pieces. Girls like Mena Johnson and Crystal Spindle provide nice size, strength, and overall interior ability. Add in KaLeiya Jones and SaRuan Newton, and it’s easy to see how many veteran players make an impact. Even freshmen Autumn Lacy and Kaitlyn Trotter already stand out as meaningful contributors. Calling this roster anything other than extremely impressive would be an understatement.
On the other side, Terry Sanford is led by a slew of veteran pieces. Ameya Brown and Alani Skye-Wilkerson have been undeniably vital to the success of this group. Brown runs the team as a primary creator and scorer who consistently impacts the game through her defense, rebounding, and polished offensive game. Meanwhile, Skye-Wilkerson has the size, skill, and athleticism to cause a variety of matchup problems for opponents. The duo accounts for majority of the team’s scoring output and nearly half of its rebounding. That being said, Amya Harrington, Jaidiah Blake, and Zaniya Reddick each provide valuable minutes for this group. Harrington offers nice size and interior ability, Blake is a versatile all-around player, and Reddick does a lot of the little things. Can they challenge North Meck'
