Phenom Hoops once again delivered another outstanding weekend of basketball with the Championship at the Capital, as teams from multiple states traveled to Raleigh to compete in one of the premier middle school events of the summer. From thrilling finishes and breakout performances to championship-caliber matchups, the event showcased the depth of talent across every age group. Throughout the weekend, players and teams competed at a high level while creating memorable moments on the court. Now, we take a look back at the teams that finished the job, celebrating the champions who earned their titles at the Championship at the Capital.
14u Blue Champion: Carolina Elite 20230
14u Orange Champion: SS Elite NC Seed
It was bracket play throughout in the 14u Blue Division, so there was so much on the line every game. Carolian Elite came in as one of the top teams and they showed that. They were able to make a statement early on, taking home multiple double-digit wins before heading into the championship game. They went up against Garner Road, and they flexed their muscles once again with strong play inside and out, securing a 62-46 victory. In the 14u Orange, there was a lot of tough battles throughout, as SS Elite NC Seed proved to be one of three undefeated teams in pool play. They found themselves matched up against Cap City Clutch first and cruised to a win, and then squared up in an intense game against Legacy Hoops Academy. That was a battle back-and-forth, with SS Elite NC Seed securing the 75-63 championship win.
13U Blue Champion: Team Grind Elite 2031
13U Orange Champion: FBP Elite 7th
13U Division had several competitive games throughout, as Team Grind Elite found themselves on top and secured the first-place spot in the Division. They were able to secure a strong bracket play win against Cap City and then found themselves in a battle against Team Swish. It was a back-and-forth showdown between two competitive teams, but they were able to hold them off to secure a 54-45 championship win. In the Orange Division, FBP found itself sitting on top in pool play but they had some tough battles in bracket play. First, they had to get through Forest Fire Basketball in a tight one, and then they matched up with Dubai Tribe in the championship. They were able to come together and cap off the weekend with a championship.
12U Orange Champion: Carolina Swarm 6th
12U Blue Champion: Team Thrill JWalk 2032
In the 12u Orange Division, this was an extremely competitive division. Carolina Swarm was able to get a narrow victory against FBP Elite and then came up short in a hard-fought victory against Team Loaded Williams. Finding themselves sitting at 1-1, they needed to find their way to the championship, first defeating TMC Elite, then taking care of business against Forest Fire Basketball, and then found themselves against Team Loaded Williams again. They didn’t let this one go, as they took care of business in a 69-55 victory and a champion. In the 12u Blue Division, Team Thrill JWalk absolutely impressed and left with a statement. They cruised through a 3-0 pool play and they didn’t slow down as they completely dominated in both games on Sunday and capped it off with a 50-30 championship win.
11u Champion: NC Express
This was an extremely tough division, as we had three teams that went undefeated in pool play with NC Express leading the charge. They were able to get it done on both sides, bringing a balanced attack both offensively and defensively. Friday and Saturday, they were able to secure three double-digit victories before heading into Sunday. With them sitting on top, they had their toughest game in the championship game against Full Court Academy, eventually walking away with a hard-fought 49- 44 victory and a championship.
10U Champion: Hillsborough Basketball Academy
There was a lot of excitement around the 10u Division, and these teams came to compete. Hillsborough Basketball Academy put their mark on the division early on with two strong double-digit wins on Saturday. They backed that up with a strong early morning win before heading into the championship game against the Carolina Swarm 4th. They didn’t slow down at all, walking away with a 42-24 victory and a championship.
9U Champion: Team Loaded Williams 2035
Team Loaded started off strong with two 20+ victories on Saturday, and they only continued that play into Sunday. With a strong defensive game early on, it allowed them to head into the championship game against Garner Road 3rd, and they looked strong once again with an impressive 54-39 victory, capping off an undefeated weekend.
