Phenom Hoops has been making a push to learn about as many prospects as we can around the country, allowing prospects to be seen and for college programs to start learning about newer names. We recently learned about a new prospect out of Huntington Prep, and we had to dive into more of his game; we came away impressed with what we saw.
2028 6’7 Hendrik Pertel from Huntington Prep is a name that college programs should start getting to know about a lot more, as we feel the blowup could be coming sooner rather than later. Pertel, who comes from Estonia, has been here in America for a few months, and he has quickly adjusted to the game. Now, he is starting to thrive on the biggest of stages for Huntington Prep, taking over in leading the charge as a sophomore.
I believe the time is now for college programs to lock in on him, as not only has he shown development, but also upside. Watching his game, there are a lot of factors that stand out immediately with his game, including motor, energy, IQ, and overall feel. Pertel is constantly moving around the floor, hunting for himself to make plays, look for his shot, and play with a non-stop motor. He runs the floor in transition, rim to rim, but also does a great job searching for his shot. He has a quick release, strong range, and is excellent in catch-and-shoot situations, especially from behind the arc. But again, he makes excellent decisions and reads, scoring on defenses that are attacking out along the perimeter or looking to create second-chance opportunities with his size and quickness to score inside. Pertel has shown that in a big way, especially over the last few months for Huntington Prep, leading by example and being a standout time after time as not only one of the top scorers but also impacting the game in other ways.
Pertel, right now, is a relatively unknown prospect nationally, but with his recent performances and with his play this summer, he could quickly become a nationally-ranked prospect in the Class of 2028; and college programs will quickly be coming his way. Right now, he holds an offer from Texas A&M, but this seems to be just the start… so the time is now to jump on board before it is too late.
