Game Breakdown:
2026 Josh Irving is a 6’11 big whose blend of size, mobility, and instincts makes him one of the more intriguing long-term prospects in his class. He’s a fluid, active big who runs the floor well and shows a natural feel for positioning on both ends. Offensively, Irving displays a soft touch around the basket, strong footwork, and the ability to step out and knock down shots as a capable stretch four. Defensively, he takes pride in being a true rim deterrent—blocking shots, altering attempts, and using his length to anchor the paint. As he continues to fill out physically and gain strength, Irving’s combination of timing, versatility, and two-way impact projects him as a high-upside modern big man with the tools to excel at the next level.
What Irving Said about Texas A&M (per On3):
“Texas A&M is a good one. They think I can immediately make an impact. The way they saw me play over the summer, they see that I’m a very good three-point shooter in transition. They see that I’m very smart in terms of basketball IQ. They think I could fit into their offense immediately and start playing immediately. I’d have to learn sets, but it’s about common knowledge with when to cut, how to come off ball screens, and how to play. Even defensively, I’ll make a big impact. They love the shooting aspect of my game and how I can immediately make an impact on offense. They don’t think there’s a better fit than there.”
What Has Been Said:
“2026 6’10 Josh Irving impressed and showed flashes of his potential. Though he needs to continue to grow and get stronger, he has a lot of intrigue with his overall feel early on and what he could ultimately be. Irving is a fluid, lengthy forward who runs the floor well, is active, and has tremendous timing on both sides. He can score with touch around the basket but is also capable of stretching the floor, and can be a difference-maker on the defensive end. Absolutely loved his feel in operating and making plays around the basket, finishing at the rim, and his overall footwork; all intangibles that should translate nicely as he continues to get stronger overall.”
“I’m a defensive menace. I love getting blocks and deterring guys away from the basket. On the offensive side, I’m a stretch 4 who can play inside and outside and knock the 3-ball down. I provide a very solid defensive presence as I make it hard for guys to get layups, which limits teams from relying on their shooting more.”
“Irving is one that I can’t help but notice with his long frame and fluidity, but it is also the potential that we have seen in this young man. With his mixture of height, length, and potential, Irving has been catching the eyes of college programs and has a chance to be a tremendous snag down the road. He impacts the game around the basket, alters shots, moves well for his size, and runs the floor but again, he is just scratching the surface of what he could ultimately be.”
