This upcoming weekend, Phenom Hoops will travel to the Convention Center in the heart of downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, for an event absolutely jam-packed with talent. The Live periods always represent the potential for so many of these young prospects to seize life-altering opportunities. Everyone wants to be seen by college coaches and eventually play at the next level. Well, this is the time for players to perform and separate themselves from their peers. Although we will be in multiple locations (Rock Hill and Raleigh), both sites will host a ton of college coaches with a variety from all levels. We will highlight some of the 17U teams for coaches to monitor, looking at Triad Elite…

In our viewings of this team, they’ve consistently proven that they can compete with anyone. Their ball movement and blend of noteworthy shot-makers simply know how to put nonstop pressure on defenses. Brodie Atkins always seems to stand out as a leader for this group. He’s a crafty guard with the handle, vision, and perimeter shooting to reliably create for himself and others. Atkins is capable of heating up quickly and piling up points in a hurry from beyond the arc, but can also attack closeouts and make solid decisions off the bounce. He competes well defensively. In a similar vein, Jordan Watson finds ways to assert his smooth perimeter shooting within the flow of the action. He can hit shots off the catch or bounce, or make plays off the dribble as needed. Watson moves well without the ball and outworks opponents to do the dirty work. Marcus Bush also stands out as a key piece through his craftiness, playmaking instincts, and ability to score within the flow of the action. He defends, rebounds, and puts the ball in scoring positions at a strong rate.

Although those three will carry a sizable offensive load, the addition of Carson Hulsizer adds another valuable dynamic to this group. He’s a smooth, well-rounded scorer who can create for himself and others or play without the ball in his hands. Hulsizer is able to mix it up at a healthy rate from all levels, but also knows how to set up others as need. He can also use his sturdy frame to make his presence felt as a defender and rebounder. Meanwhile, Tyreek White has the size, length, motor, and athleticism to wreak havoc on both ends of the floor. He’s a physically imposing defender and highly energetic rebounder who positions himself to consistently impact the game. White can finish above the rim or through contact, but doesn’t necessarily need touches to make an impact. That being said, guys like Jerome Watson and Jordan Holmes also bring a lot of value to this group. Both comfortable playing hard and operating within the flow of the action, they know how to do a little bit of everything on the court. Expect this roster to turn heads throughout the upcoming weekend, as they should be a priority for an abundance of programs.
