Memphis’ PJ Haggerty looking to be that guy
It is seemingly obvious in just two exhibition games for Memphis that PJ Haggerty looks to be the guy for this team offensively, after posting 32 points on 9-for-22 shooting after leading the way vs. UNC not long ago with 24 points. Yes, he did record eight fouls in the game but Haggerty showed how assertive he is offensively in scoring and creating. He continues to thrive in his ability to get to the free-throw line, as he was excellent last year for Tulsa. But he also was able to create off the dribble, get to his spots well, show patience at times, and continue to play with high energy. Again, he finished with 32 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals for Memphis vs. Alabama.
Guard play strong from Alabama
Coming into the season, you knew what you would get and receive from one of the top guards in the country in Mark Sears. He didn’t disappoint with 20 points on 5-of-10 shooting and was active on both sides of the ball. But it was great to see freshman Labaron Philon in action, as he finished with 17 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds for Alabama. The long guard was able to knock down shots with confidence, mix it up well offensively, and display a good overall feel for the game. He is known for his ability to score the basketball and that he did, but was impressed with his overall performance. And finally, you have Aden Holloway who is now with Alabama. Though it wasn’t the best night of shooting, his play, feel for the game, and shot-making is going to help Alabama in a HUGE way.
Excited to see what Clifford Omoruyi can do for Alabama
After years at Rutgers and being such a hot topic in the transfer portal, Omoruyi is now looking to help lead the Tide in a big way. And after watching him against Memphis, I’m very intrigued in what he is going to be able to provide on the court this year. Overall, I loved his activity while on the court, whether it was moving well without the ball to create activities, running the floor, being active on the glass, or just finding ways to make plays in a variety of ways. He was efficient against Memphis, finishing with 10 points, going 5-for-7 from the floor, and securing 10 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 1 steal.
