All week long I have been going over some of the players that lit it up at the Phenom Summer Jam last weekend. Today I want to wrap up my coverage with some of my overall takeaways from this event. They are as follows:

SW Guilford is REALLY fun to watch – SW Guilford is flat loaded with next level guards thanks to the Langley brothers. Kobe, Keyshaun, and Kameron are a trio of 6'-6'1 cat quick scorers that dominate on both ends of the floor. The 3 of them play so well with one another and have such a great feel for the game that you can't help but like watching them go. If I'm a coach I am knocking on the door of their house with offers for everyone, including the dog. They are a family of ballers!

Mt Airy HS now in my top 5 of schools I like to watch – I LOVE smaller schools, especially when they step up and take on the bigger dogs in the yard and can beat them. This team is very well coached and has an old school feel to them. They also have a star in the making at their level in 6'2 2019 W Donovan Greene. Anyone looking to see how to build a program at lower level that can compete need to sit and watch these kids play.

PG's and glue guys are vital – I saw several teams in this event that had nice talent but did not play as well as they should have given the fact that either they had no PG play or they had no one willing to be role or glue guys on the team. No team can win if they have 10 'stars' on the floor all looking to earn a scholarship offer every time they take the court. I also saw several teams with decent talent and role players who had no PG to run the show. It is hard to have a sports car go anywhere if it has no engine. PG play and role players are vital to a teams success.

Patrick Dorsey cemented himself as one of top 5 shooters in the state – Everyone knows that the 6'5 2017 SG at Millbrook HS is a weapon. Everyone knows that his team is looking to get him the ball out past the arch for a shot. Yet he still finds a way to bury shot after shot in spite of what the defense is trying to do against him. With his height and release he has to be looked at as one of the more sought after shooters from the state in the 2017 class.

Until next time, see you in the gym!
