Recently at the Phenom Team Camp, we had an opportunity to catch up with Douglas Byrd to see what they may have to offer. With several key pieces returning, there is certainly a chance there will be no drop-off from last year, especially with another year under their belt. We take a look at a few players that grabbed our attention, headlined by the McDuffie duo.
2028 Marcus McDuffie looks poised to build on the strong season he had a year ago. At 6-foot-5, he is a physical, double-double threat who consistently impacts the game with his scoring and rebounding. McDuffie plays through contact, finishes with strength around the basket, and has the versatility to score from multiple levels, making him a key piece for Douglas Byrd heading into the season.
2028 Malachi McDuffie is a dynamic guard who thrives with the ball in his hands. His quick first step and shifty handle allow him to break down defenders, create scoring opportunities off the bounce, and keep defenses off balance. He also brings value on the defensive end, using his energy and toughness to apply pressure and make life difficult for opposing guards.
2027 Jourdon Johnson proved to be a reliable offensive weapon with his ability to create and score. The quick, shifty guard consistently attacked the defense, picked his spots well, and finished plays with confidence around the basket. His ability to generate offense and produce 15 points highlighted the impact he can have as a scoring threat for his team.
With a talented returning core, Douglas Byrd appears well-positioned to build on last season’s success. The combination of size, scoring, athleticism, and experience gives the Eagles the pieces to compete at a high level once again. If this group continues to develop together, expect Douglas Byrd to be a team that makes plenty of noise throughout the upcoming season.
