Greetings HS hoops junkies from across the March Madness, awaiting Piedmont! The Great One is here to give out his latest Furious 5 rankings. States are headed to the finals and, as usual, the F5 title is coming down to the last weekend as well. Last week’s regional action saw the last two years’ Furious 5 champion bite the dust at the hands of this year’s top-ranked squad. We also saw a DSO team leapfrog back into the 5 and is participating in the Ring Round. Another F5 team fell to the biggest Cinderella in the state playoffs in the 6A West finals. There is movement galore as we head into the final week of the 25-26 campaign so let’s get…….TO THE 5!!!!
1. MOORESVILLE 27-2 – THE BLUE DEVILS DETHRONED BACK-TO-BACK STATE TITLEIST NORTH MECK IN THE 7A WEST REGIONAL FINALS, FACE POWERFUL SOUTHERN DURHAM IN THE RING ROUND.
2. WEST CHARLOTTE 22-6 – THE LIONS VAULT TO THE 2 SPOT AS THEY UPSET 8A WEST TOP SEED AND UNBEATEN WEST FORSYTH. HAS A DATE IN THE RING ROUND WITH HOGGARD FOR ALL THE MARBLES.
3. NORTH MECK 25-5 – THE VIKINGS’ BID FOR A THREEPEAT WAS DERAILED BY F5 #1 MOORESVILLE IN THE REGIONAL FINALS. SEASON COMPLETE.
4. CATHOLIC 25-5 – THE COUGARS WERE STUNNED BY CINDERELLA KINGS MOUNTAIN IN THE 6A WEST FINALS. SEASON COMPLETE.
5. HICKORY RIDGE 24-6 – THE RAGIN BULLS ALMOST PULLED OFF AN UPSET AT NORTH MECK IN THE REGIONAL SEMIS, BUT FELL SHORT. SEASON COMPLETE.
We Didn’t Sleep On: Marvin Ridge 22-6, Hough 20-7, West Meck 18-10, Ardrey Kell 20-8, East Meck 19-10
Looked in the Window: Independence 15-13, Myers Park 18-9, Weddington 18-11, Butler 16-10, Providence 15-11
