Greetings HS hoops junkies from across the spring-is-springing Piedmont! The Fabulous One is here to recap his Regional Finals picks and give you who will be getting sized for rings and who will dream of what could’ve been. The Great One posted a 7-1 mark in the Regional Finals, or 87.5% bringing his overall states record to 204-43, or right at 83%. His only loss was Queens Grant, who seemed like their JVs played against Corvian as The Cardinals rolled to a 31 point demolition of QG. We will now recap the Regional Finals. In the 4A West, we saw a 4th battle between old friends #3 North Meck and #13 Chambers won by the Vikings 64-56 to punch their 2nd Ring Round appearance in a row. They will be facing 4A East winner #1 New Hanover who rudely dispatched upstart #3 Sanderson, 83-55, setting up a rematch of last year’s title game. In the 3A West, two Cinderella teams, Huss and Ben Smith battled with Smith prevailing 71-57. Awaiting them is #2 Southern Durham, a 78-65 winner over the top eastern seed Swansboro. In 2A action #1 Reidsville continued its dominance in the West by tolling the midnight bell for Cinderella #15 Bandys, 79-50. The East saw #3 Northwood stop #4 West Bladen, 57-38. The 1A West saw #5 Corvian embarrass #3 Queens Grant, 75-44. The Cardinals will square off with the eastern 2 seed Southern Wake who upset #1 Washington County, 70-56. We have recapped the fifth round and now we will move on to see who will be your Ring Round winners….TO THE PICKS!!!!
