Greetings HS hoops junkies from across the Super Bowl awaiting Piedmont! The Great One is here to recap his latest Game of the Week which was a makeup visit to Country Day as the Bucs hosted Charlotte Christian on Senior Night. The Buccaneers would start off a little sluggish as Coach Carrier played seniors liberally but they managed to forge a 19-10 lead behind senior floor leader Carlin Parker and the very active Moe Davis who is also a senior. The Knights were getting open looks but nothing would go down so their defense tightened up in the 2nd frame. Bucs’ freshman Braylon Clark used his athleticism to tally 7 points in the 1st half by getting to the rim at will and Joseph Youakim added 7 of his own with a flurry of assists. Christian’s Jack Schonberg and Marshall Nicholson kept the Knights afloat with 8 and 7 points respectively. A dunk by Davis gave the Bucs a 26-16 lead and they would take a 33-21 lead to the locker room at halftime.
The 2nd half saw the Bucs using penetration to the paint for points or kickouts in slightly building on their double-digit lead but their threes weren’t falling either so they couldn’t give a complete knockout punch. They continued with the Boa Constrictor method and slowly built a big lead behind Clark as well as Parker’s traditional three-point play which produced a 40-25 lead. Christian also had good ball movement but resorted to one-on-one drives that weren’t successful when many shots were still not falling. After trailing by 18 at the end of the 3rd, the Knights threw in the towel but Nicholson would knock down some threes to give him 18 points and the medalist title for the game. Senior Nick Diaz was saddled with early foul trouble but managed 8 points in his last appearance at home as a senior. His layup off a Knight turnover gave his team a 62-37 lead and Buccaneer subs would finish the game for a 71-44 Country Day win.
For the Buccaneers, Clark was the gamer with 14, Davis had 12 with 10 boards, Youakim had 11 and Parker added 10. Christian’s cause was led by Nicholson’s 18 and Jack Schonberg had 10. Silas Jackson had a quiet night offensively with 8 points and 8 rebounds. This week The Great One will be announcing his GOTW on Wednesday via X as it will be a Friday night game. Check back next week for his recap of his GOTW and announce his last regular season GOTW. Stay tuned!!!!
