SAD SAM’S GAME OF THE WEEK FOR WEEK ENDING 1/10

Greetings HS hoops junkies from across the its-winter-once-again Piedmont!  The Great One is here to give a recap of his first Game of the Week of the 2026 conference campaign.  In our first GOTW, North Meck travelled to visit the Butler Bulldogs in a key Power 6 matchup.  The 1st quarter was nip and tuck as Ashton Pierce led the Vikings with 8.  Ian Tomlinson and Isaiah White aided the Dawgs’ cause with 12 points between them, ending the period in an 18-18 tie.  In the 2nd frame, North Meck turned up the defensive heat, turning Butler over on 3 straight possessions to carve out a working margin.  The result was a 23-11 blitz that left the Vikings with a 41-29 lead at the half.  Pierce finished the half with 21 helped out by Exzavier Young’s intense board work and Wilson Estwick’s active defense as he seemed to get his hands on many Butler passes.  The 3rd quarter brought more of the same as Butler center James Vastis picked up his 3rd foul, and his needed inside presence was diminished.  Despite Tomlinson’s 9 3rd quarter points, the Dawgs were left staring at a 60-42 deficit on the scoreboard.  The Vikings substituted liberally in the 4th quarter in finishing out a 76-54 win.  Pierce finished with a game-high 33, and Young tallied 15 points and 12 rebounds.  Tomlinson led Butler with 18.  North Meck improved to 12-,2 and the Bulldogs fell 12-3.
