Greetings HS hoops junkies from across the rainy Piedmont!  HS hoops season is here again and The Great One is ready to give out his first F5 of the new season. His weekly Furious 5 rankings will deal with only NC 4A public school teams in and connecting to Mecklenburg County as usual. Last season saw North Meck sweep both the F5 and NC 4A state titles as Myers Park did in ’23 and Weddington in ’22. It seems like every year the Western Regionals doubles as the Furious 5 Championship Tournament.  This year may be no different as several area teams are destined for the regionals once again. The question remains who will come out of the West to face New Hanover who is the Sadster’s pick to win the East, in the title game in March. The early money is on the Lakers from Lake Norman High School with Chambers and possibly North Meck or Catholic having a word or two to say about it. Without further ado, let’s get to the 5!!!!!!

1. LAKE NORMAN – POTENTIAL PRODIGAL SON, 6’10 F,C TRENT STEINHOUR STAYED HOME TO MAKE THE WILDCATS STATE TITLE FAVORITES.

2. CHAMBERS – CAN MARKUS KERR “BOUIE” THE COUGARS TO A REGIONAL APPEARANCE?

3. NORTH MECK – ISAIAH EVANS IS GONE TO DUKE, BUT THERE ARE ENOUGH STATE TITLE LEFTOVERS TO MAKE A REGIONAL RUN.

4. CATHOLIC – THE COUGARS AKA “THE PINEVILLE SKYLINE” BECAUSE OF THEIR ABUNDANCE OF HEIGHT, PLAN A RUN OF THEIR OWN BEHIND 6’8 SR CHRIS EAGAN.

5. INDEPENDENCE – THE PATRIOTS ARE COUNTING ON 6’4 JR JAXSON NEELY TO GUIDE THE BIG I BACK TO STATE PROMINENCE.

Don’t Sleep On: Ardrey Kell, Olympic, Hopewell, Hough

There you have it folks!  Check back every Monday for your weekly F5 rankings. The Great One will be releasing his long awaited annual QC 3A/4A Conference preview this Wednesday.  Stay tuned!!!!!
