2026 Cameron Newman has continued to elevate his game and draw attention from college programs. With a strong high school showing and summer, Newman is now starting to take a harder look at a few specific schools in his recruitment. Phenom Hoops caught up with the talented point guard to get the latest on where things stand, what visits he plans to take, and which programs are standing out as he enters a pivotal stage in his recruitment journey.

What Has Been Said:

“Newman is one who you simply know what you are going to get from him. From talking about him as a young prospect in middle school to where he is today, his understanding and demeanor haven’t changed, and he continues to produce. Schools all around the local area should be looking his way and not wasting time, as Newman knows how to run the offense well, understands how to be a strong scoring point guard, and creates well with his overall handles and IQ. No matter where he has been, Newman has produced in a big way.”

“At the Phenom Fall League, he gave us a small glimpse of what we could expect this upcoming season; he showed poise and promise in being the creator and leader for this team and being a very strong scoring impact again this year. Newman’s handles, creativity, court awareness, and speed make him tough to handle, as he can hurt you in a variety of ways. He is comfortable in taking you off the bounce, scoring around the basket with touch and over defenders, finds ways to put pressure on the defense and get to the line, and can easily hurt you from the perimeter as well.  And just when you think you may have him slowed down, he does a great job in getting others involved as well. Last year, he averaged just under 16 points per game but with the production lost from last season, those numbers may have to increase for Gaston Christian to rack up the wins. But he certainly is capable of doing just that.”

Recruitment Update:

Newman has had a few new programs come around with offers, and it looks like he is starting to learn more about them. Columbia and Georgia Southern were his two latest offers, while also holding offers from NC A&T, Queens, and Western Carolina as well.

When speaking with Newman recently, he had mentioned that he is looking to set up some visits shortly. “I’m planning an official visit to Columbia in September, and I’m going on a visit to Georgia Southern, but we haven’t decided on a date yet.”

Right now, Newman has been talking to Columbia, Georgia Southern, Navy, and Mercer the most, as these programs believe that he can be the point guard of the future. “I can provide them with just being a point guard that creates for others, but also myself. They like the way I make reads off ball screens, and they believe that can translate to the next level.”

As far as decision timeline, Newman has no set date in mind but would be looking to make a decision soon. “I want to decide before the season starts, so maybe early November.”
