What to Watch at Phenom Team Camp

This upcoming weekend, Phenom Hoops will travel down to Rock Hill, South Carolina, to host our annual June Team Camp. The event always features a slew of the most talented teams and individuals within the Carolinas, and this year’s will be no different. Leading up to the event, we will take a closer look at players and subplots to monitor. Folks should be familiar with Rae Villines over his several years of coaching at The Burlington School. Now, he’s accepted a position as the head coach of Cresset Christian Academy and will be a definite team to watch this weekend. Let’s take a closer look….
Currently, their main guys are slated to be Jalen Sheppard, Emmanuel Jamgbadi, and JT Williams. Sheppard is a long, bouncy wing with ball skills and shot-making ability. He possesses a nice combination of toughness, unselfishness, and two-way feel. Between his varsity experience and general polish, he’ll likely be a top scorer for this group. Sheppard should find production with relative ease as a leader and focal point. Next, Jamgbadi might have as much appeal as anyone on the roster. He’s a long, explosive big man with powerful athleticism and an impressive frame. Jamgbadi should be the main rebounder and defensive anchor for this squad, especially given his size, physicality, and instincts around the basket.
The only non-senior in this trio, Williams, has the chance to be a noteworthy prospect based on his current trajectory. Between his nonstop motor, rugged mentality, and generally impactful game, he’s already proven to be a real difference-maker with the Carolina Bulldogs. Williams is able to handle the ball and create for others while finding scoring chances within the flow of the action. He’s a reliable perimeter shooter and penetrating threat who mixes it up at a quality rate to keep opponents guessing. Add in his pesky defensive presence, and it’s easy to see his value. Only entering his freshman year, Williams has obvious appeal. Those three will carry a heavy load, but this group should have a variety of scrappy pieces across several age groups.
