What He Said:

“”I chose Purdue because they not only fit my play style but me as person,” West said. “They need a versatile lead guard who can create for himself and others in many different ways and that is what they and I believe I can bring to their program.” – from 247Sports on Commitment

“I liked the way they welcomed me there and the culture of their basketball program,” West said on Purdue. “I even liked their academic programs. They give their athletes other options to have things going for themselves. The whole school has a great environment. Matt Painter wants me to be me and become a player who can play free and be able to score.” – from 247Sports when he visited in September

What Does This Mean to Purdue:

We know that Purdue has had a pretty strong pedigree with tremendous value at the guard position, securing prospects that may be ranked a bit lower by national outlets but end up producing in a big way for the program. West has good size at the guard position and is considered one of the top prospects in the state of Ohio.  He can shine in various ways, displaying the ability to create and knock down shots, dictate and create on the offensive end, and bring value to both sides of the court. Purdue’s roster is mostly made up of freshmen and sophomores, but they will be losing key juniors in the future and West could help replace that production in the coming years.
