On Saturday, Phenom Hoops will travel to Carmel Christian in Matthews, North Carolina to host our sixth annual Phenom Hoops MLK Showcase. The one-day event will begin at noon and the final game will start at 7:30, featuring six games of exciting action between twelve highly talented programs—both from public and private ranks. In preparation for the event, we will take a closer look at each matchup and highlight individual players to monitor…
The third contest of our MLK Showcase takes place between Wesleyan Christian (12-6) and The Burlington School (11-7). In his second season at the helm, Coach Young has done a tremendous job of accumulating talent and translating it into wins. Despite two extremely close games to open the season and a four-game skid in December, the Trojans have been very impressive. This is a veteran-laden roster with over a handful of college-level players. Guys like Nick Keith, Jasean Williams, Quamir Ingram, Owen Augunas, and Noah Dobyns are extremely vital to the success of this group, however, Zacch Wiggins is the Trojans’ clear, undisputed leader. Meanwhile, The Burlington School has managed to stay afloat following the departure of their focal point. Guys like Drew Johnson, Cam Flippen, and Kaden Hammond have all taken massive steps forward as leaders—especially in terms of production. Furthermore, the likes of Asante Phillip, Geo Gibson, Brayden Miles, Kendall Hooker, and Jack Baker all provide quality minutes as needed. Adding Jamyr Coleman has also given the Spartans a new wrinkle. Currently sitting with similar records and pools of talent, it’ll be fascinating to watch this game unfold.
