Which, in turn, means there’s no better time to start highlighting individuals who have the tools and ability to be breakout players over the next eight months. While this notion could certainly apply to a variety of prospects, the emphasis is primarily on younger guys with an increased role, new school situation, or those who simply take the next step in their progression. After a memorable summer with AWigg Elite (and June Live Period with Greensboro Day), it’s becoming increasingly clear that Motley has the tools to be a special talent. What stands out most about his game are his incredibly high IQ, impressive pace, and unflappable demeanor at all times. Motley possesses a unique level of poise for any player at any age, but the fact that he’s just entering his sophomore season only heightens his overall appeal. He’s already a very skilled, refined floor general with sharp vision, polished scoring ability, and a tight, crafty handle. Motley consistently takes care of the ball and makes smart decisions as a creator, but also knows how and when to assert himself as a scorer. He breaks down opponents with ease and navigates wherever he wants off the dribble to generate clean looks for himself and others. Motley offers a seemingly perfect balance between setting up others and picking his spots as an efficient threat from all levels.
While his offensive firepower would be more than enough to entice most individuals, Motley’s impact goes beyond his ability to make plays with the ball in his hands. He’s a tough, pesky defender who reliably contains opposing guards at the point of attack. Motley is capable of harassing opposing ball-handlers for the length of the floor, turning them, and forcing turnovers at a strong rate. He competes with great energy on the glass and has a natural attraction to the ball, as it always seems to find his hands. It’s also worth noting that he’s set to play a vital role on potentially the most loaded basketball team in Greensboro Day School history. Only time will tell, but it feels like Motley is clearly trending as a national-level prospect.
