This weekend, Phenom Hoops is hosting our annual North Carolina Top 80, Sophomore 40, and Freshman 40 Camps at Rise Indoor Sports. These camps bring together top players throughout the state and pit them against each other in competition. There have been countless memorable moments, storylines, and performances over the past decade. However, the emergence of the Sophomore 40 and Freshman 40 has expanded the pool of campers considerably. In preparation for the weekend, here are some potential matchups that could be intriguing. Remember, these are hypothetical matchups, as rosters are still being finalized. Let’s take a look…

“The Guards”

As we all know, North Carolina’s Class of 2028 is absolutely loaded with noteworthy guards. There are simply too many to highlight specific matchups, as guys like Aaron Lawler, AJ Morman, Chacho Womack, Cruz Miller, DJ Lindsey, Dyson Britt, Kaharri Coleman, Mack Jordan, Micah Gunter, Sherod McCormick, Eddie Cota, and several others enter this event with a lot of buzz. Lawler was quietly as productive as anyone in the class last season. Morman has already been established as a focal point for a title contender. Womack led this camp in scoring last year and remains one of the top bucket-getters in the class. Lindsey is as poised for a breakout season as anyone listed. Britt continues to visibly trend upward. Coleman is the top guard in the class, given his explosiveness and dynamic creation skills. Jordan should have a big year as an extremely reliable all-around floor general. Gunter continues to shine as a primary leader for one of the top programs in the state. McCormick has a lot of status as a guy who has already started arguably the most games of anyone listed. Cota is still one of the most intriguing players in this class. Although there’s more, those guys should definitely turn heads.

Cameron Moore vs. Aaron Parker vs. Julian Tweedy

Although there are several intriguing wing/forwards in this class, Moore, Parker, and Tweedy are clearly the top trio. Moore possesses a very versatile game with the ability to defend multiple positions and cause matchup problems as an offensive threat. Parker has rapidly blossomed over the last twelve months, both in terms of his physical growth and general development as a player, and has already warranted national status. Tweedy is already a highly valuable two-way piece who seems to improve with each new viewing. Each of these three guys is trending up in a big way.

Roman Solheim vs. Andrew Juergens

Though somewhat different as players, the intrigue should be obvious between two noteworthy 6-foot-7 forwards from Guilford County. Solheim is probably still somewhat underrated by the masses, but his motor and versatile, inside-out game make him a real problem for opponents on both ends of the floor. On the other hand, Juergens is long, bouncy, and shows floor-spacing ability while producing as a key piece for one of the top programs in the state. Expect both of these guys to make noise this weekend.
