Phenom Porter Gaud Holiday Classic
Thoughts, Takeaways, and Stock Risers
Day Two
Phenom Hoops travelled to beautiful and historic Charleston, South Carolina to cover the Porter Gaud Holiday Classic. Now, let’s take a look at some of our thoughts, takeaways, and stock risers. Starting the day, it was an exciting game between Oceanside Collegiate and Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach. Both teams are very well coached and it was a game of runs with Oceanside Collegiate making one big run midway through the fourth quarter. That being said, Christian Academy battled back but the timely free throw shooting of 6’4 senior Tristen Freeling sealed the victory for Oceanside Collegiate. Before we get started on Day Two recap, let’s take a review Day One “Thoughts, Takeaways, and Stock Risers” https://www.phenomhoopreport.com/porter-gaud-thoughts-takeaways-and-stock-risers-day-one/
6’4 2020 Tristen Freeling (Oceanside Collegiate) “Senior Leadership”

Freeling had 15 points for the game, but it was his second half performance that was the difference maker. He had 12 second half points hitting two key 3-pointers to put Oceanside ahead and scored the last four points of the game at the free throw to secure the 55-52 win. Freeling plays with tremendous passion and energy and does a lot of little things that often go under the radar.
6’4 2020 Drew Coleman (Oceanside Collegiate)

Coleman scored 17 points in Friday night’s exciting 41-39 win and won the game MVP award. On Saturday, he was equally impressive as he had a team high 20 points including four 3-pointers. In the two exciting and narrow wins, Coleman averaged 18.5 PPG and was instrumental in the team’s success.
6’0 2022 Seth Debruhl (Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach)

The lefty shooting guard was dialed in and finished with a game high 24 points in the losing cause. Debruhl hit four 3-pointers and was an active and energetic player from start to finish. We were impressed with his ability to move extremely well without the ball and more importantly his footwork in getting sets for consistent perimeter shots.
6’7 2020 Malakhi Stremlow (Cane Bay)

Already committed to play collegiately at the Newberry College, 6’7 senior Malakhi Stremlow put on a workmanlike game. He finished with a game high 20 points, hitting shots in the paint, stepping out and knocking down an occasional 3-pointer, and being extremely efficient at the free throw line. We’re talking about a strong, physical, steady, reliable power forward that defends, rebounds and quietly goes about this business. In addition, the soft-spoken senior made a huge impression afterward with his humbleness and excellent manners.
5’5 2022 Diane Thompson (Ashley Ridge)

It was a solid all-around performance by the sophomore guard. Diane Thompson did just about everything well, whether it was on the defensive or offensive end of the court. Offensively, Thompson was the game’s leading scorer with 13 points, not to mention good vocal leadership on the court. She handled the ball well and made correct reads and decisions. Defensively, she was active and moved her feet extremely well.
6’9 2020 Justice Ajogbor (Christ School)

It was a workmanlike day for Justice Ajogbor. In the come from behind win, Ajogbor was an intimidating force on the defensive boards, not to mention his ability to block and alter shots. We had him unofficially with 12 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks. In addition, he went 4-4 from the free throw line in the closing minutes of the game.
5’10 2021 Drew Redmond (Christ School)

We have often stated, Christ School will only be as good as their guard play and today against a quick and athletic First Baptist team, Drew Redmond stepped up big in his play. He helped control tempo, limited the amount of Christ School turnovers and poured a game high 16 points. Christ School needed a guard to step up today and Redmond answered the call and has allowed them to win 8-9 of their last game.
