The Phenom Ambassador Classic delivered no shortage of talent and competitive energy, and several players made sure to leave a lasting impression. Our own scout, Patrick O’Brien, was locked in throughout the action this past Saturday, evaluating matchups, intangibles, and impact on both ends of the floor. From prospects stepping up in big moments to others showcasing advanced skill sets and confidence, a handful of standouts truly separated themselves. Below, Patrick breaks down the players who caught his eye and set the tone at the Phenom Ambassador Classic with their performances.

2027 Malik McCotter (Phoenix Montessori)
McCotter continues to flourish and help lead this team. A smaller guard but one that is certainly shifty and has proven his ability to score the ball effectively, McCotter does a great job in attacking and taking what is given to him. He displays speed and quickness with his ability to create, weaving through the defense and finishing. However, he may be at his best when he is hunting for his spots and knocking down shots from multiple levels and with good range.

2026 Boulis Ker (Lab University)
Ker was a new name for us personally with Lab City, and he stepped up big for his team. The 6’9 forward brought a lot of activity and allowed this team to really attack with its size. Ker was strong in being able to compete and battle down in the paint, attack the rim with a lot of physicality, and also bring value on the glass and as a defender. Ker really stepped up with his energy throughout this game, helping his team in a big way.

2026 Taurean McKinnon (Mooresville)
Mooresville’s overall attack was balanced and dominating, with a few players standing out. But I really liked what I saw from unsigned senior McKinnon, as he consistently provided pressure with his offensive game. Time after time, he was able to attack and get downhill, applying pressure on the defense to either allow him to score or get to the line. McKinnon brings size and athleticism that brought trouble for his opponents, as he continues to be a valuable senior leader for this team.

2027 Sean Nix (Cannon)
Nix has had a big season overall, and he continued to impress with his play at the event. Though Nix certainly brings intrigue with his physicality and frame as a guard, his ability to play off the ball and hunt for his shot has been impressive. He moves well without the ball to find open spots and shows a smooth release from mid-range and behind the arc, as he can fill it up with his ability to knock down shots. Nix can thrive with his overall game, but he thrives as a shooter with his confident jumper.
