There is something to be said about a guy who can fit into a lot of situations. 6’6 Johnny Newman defends multiple positions, makes plays for himself and others, however most of all Johnny Newman wins a lot of games.
Newman has long been on the radar, leading into his freshman year here is what we wrote about him after his performance at the NC Phenom 150 camp, “He was impressive at camp. Johnny averaged 16.3 PPG and did it in spectacular fashion. Coach Moorman stated, “Johnny was one of the hardest working players all day. He has a great skill set and the sky is the limit for him.” While he is not currently in the national dialogue as one of the top 2018 prospects in the country, we strongly feel he will be in the very near future. Not many young prospects have the athleticism; skill set and work ethic and those three ingredients will separate him from many of his peers.”
Newman is a good student and always has a smile on his face. It seems kids are already around him, laughing and joking around. He is a great team mate, the kind which everyone likes playing with as he makes everyone around him better.
After watching Newman’s performance at the 2015 Phenom High School Jamboree we stated, “Newman has a great pace and feel to his game. He is the glue man on a championship type team. Newman, a lefty, has good length and great anticipation. He excels in the mid-range on offense, where he finds his shot off the bounce and in attacking the basket. Defensively he can defend multiple positions, and does so with a high IQ. Newman is a Top 150 type of player. Newman has some similarities to former Syracuse Orangeman Josh Pace.”
Currently Newman carries offers from the likes of Wake Forest, Boston College, and Charlotte with Syracuse, Clemson and others watching. Look for a big end to July for Newman and it will start at CP3 Live July 15-17.
