This upcoming weekend, Phenom Hoops will travel to the Raleigh Convention Center to host our annual G3 Live Showcase. The event is set to feature an abundance of college-worthy talent and prospects for coaches at nearly every level. In addition to the countless names set to be on display, coaches will also have the opportunity to watch Chaise Smith of Washington/Team Wall. Still one of the more under-recruited prospects in North Carolina, he should absolutely collect several offers over these next few months. Let’s take a closer look at the 6-foot-2 guard…
Prior to the summer, we referred to Smith as a prospect due for a big travel ball season, stating, “Between his production, skillset, and appealing array of physical tools, it’s really confusing why only Radford and High Point have extended offers to Smith. He’s a crafty, dynamic creator and scorer with the blend of IQ, poise, and quick-twitch athleticism to cause a ton of problems for opponents. Smith is comfortable operating as a primary playmaker and running the team, but can also effectively coexist alongside another floor general and apply pressure as a scorer from all levels. He’s a reliable shooter, penetrator, and finisher with a smooth middle game and underrated feel as a passer. Smith displays sharp instincts defensively and anticipates well to force turnovers at the point of attack. It would be perplexing if he didn’t collect at least a handful of offers this summer.”
Although we are waiting on his evitable uptick in recruitment, Smith recently received an offer from Presbyterian. However, it still feels like Smith is poised to erupt over these next few months. He’s an obvious Division I talent with the athleticism, creation skills, and two-way instincts to be an asset for a variety of different programs. Smith’s ability to operate from either guard spot, fill it up as a scorer, and consistently generate clean looks for others makes him quite valuable. Add in his useful presence as a defender and rebounder, and it’s easy to see the appeal. College coaches can watch him Friday-Sunday in Raleigh.
