5’11 ’28 Jahlil Jenkins (Upward Stars Columbia)
Between his crafty shot-making, defensive intensity, and general involvement in the action, there was a lot to like about what Jenkins brought to this group. He’s a smart, high-motor guard who showed the ability to consistently make an impact with or without the ball in his hands. Jenkins is a capable initiator and willing playmaker who sees the floor well as a passer. However, he’s arguably at his best when filling it up as a scorer. Jenkins utilizes his handle and quickness to reliably access (and convert) midrange pull-ups at a strong rate, but can also finish or hit jumpers from beyond the arc. He also defends the point of attack with energy and tenacity.
6’0 ’28 Noah Dodd (Upward Stars Upstate)
Though somewhat unassuming at first glance, it doesn’t take long to recognize all the things Dodd does to shine as an all-around leader. He dictates the action as the main creator, generates consistent offense for himself and others, and scores the ball at an efficient rate from all over the floor. Dodd utilizes his body well to absorb contact when creating, finishing, or defending. He rebounds his position and effectively pushes the break in transition. Dodd’s ability to do a strong amount of everything makes him very valuable to this squad.
5’9 ’27 Bryant Graham (Upward Stars Pee Dee)
Given his consistently productive leadership, it’s clear that Graham is vital to the success of this group. He’s a smart, skilled guard who shoots the ball at an extremely high clip from beyond the arc. Graham is a useful playmaker with the vision, handle, and quickness to break down opponents and create opportunities for others. However, he’s also very comfortable operating without the ball and applying pressure as a spot-up threat. Graham is able to score the ball in a variety of ways, but poses constant problems for opponents through his ability to hit jumpers from midrange or beyond the arc. He’s also a pesky defender and very solid rebounder for his size/position.
6’4 ’28 Chase Benenbaugh (Upward Stars Columbia)
Due to his combination of size, athleticism, and developing skillset, there’s definitely a lot to like about what Benenbaugh brings to the table. He’s a strong, physical forward with nice toughness and activity as a two-way piece. Benenbaugh showed the ability to space the floor and finish through contact or above the rim. He’s a solid defender whose length allows him to guard bigger opponents with relative ease. Benenbaugh also establishes an active rebounding presence on both ends of the floor. He still has clear upside remaining.
