Each year, we at Phenom Hoops are fortunate enough to watch and evaluate thousands upon thousands of basketball prospects. This allows us to have a wider scope and determine which players are overrated versus underrated. Malachy McGuirt is someone that we've seen numerous times in multiple different settings and we truly believe that he's just beginning to scratch the surface of his long-term abilities. The South Carolina native is largely unknown to the masses, but has the tools necessary to become a very successful player at the high school and collegiate levels.

Though soft-spoken, McGuirt is one of the most intriguing prospects in the region, given his versatility and blossoming skillset. He's likely a forward at this stage in his development, but possesses the necessary ball skills and athleticism to operate in a variety of different roles on the court. McGuirt can handle the ball and create effectively for his size but is also willing to work on the block, which makes him a matchup problem for most opponents. He is versatile enough to seamlessly adjust his approach from one possession to the next, but could become downright dominant with more strength and aggression. McGuirt creates for himself and others quite well and has the necessary vision to make crafty reads on a regular basis. He scores the ball efficiently from all levels, but is arguably the most consistent when attacking the basket and looking to play above the rim. McGuirt is smart, mobile, and will continue trending upward.

All folks should know about South Carolina basketball by now, seeing as how the top two picks in this year's NBA draft will be from somewhere that is widely considered a football state. McGuirt is going to be a quality player, especially if he continues to put in the necessary work, and should emerge as a scholarship-level prospect sooner than later.
