Phenom Hoops was able to tune in on Wednesday to watch a tremendous matchup in California between St. John Bosco with two of the top prospects in the country and Orange Luthern, a very intriguing team that offers talent. Patrick O’Brien dives into more of his thoughts from the game, as St. John Bosco eventually won 58-44.

2026 Brandon McCoy Jr. (St. John Bosco)

McCoy Jr. is ranked as a Top-5 prospect by nearly every national outlet in the country and getting a chance to watch him after returning from injury was fun to watch. When you talk about this guard, what makes him so intriguing is his size at 6’5. He shows that he can do a little bit of everything and uses that to his advantage. McCoy shows his ability to make plays and create, run the offense, and also be a true scoring option. He is at his best when he can get downhill, attack the defense and get inside, finish strong off the dribble, or showcase how explosive he can be at the rim. Not watching him as many others nationally, McCoy still has room to improve offensively by showing more of his outside game so we are eager to see how he continues to grow in that area. Defensively though, it was immediately known how much havoc McCoy presents on the court. At 6’5, he creates a lot of trouble for guards, gets into opponents and stays active, and allows his defense to turn into offense; highly impressive.

2026 Christian Collins (St. John Bosco)

If you have been following the recruiting landscape, you would have seen that 2026 6’9 Christian Collins has been a popular name in the news and with college coaches. He has also taken a big leap in the rankings, so I was eager to see more of his game. Collins came out strong, attacking the rim and showing his bounce, but also getting to his spots, playing off the ball, and knocking down shots from the perimeter. With his length and size, Collins shows that he can be incredibly versatile and I do like how he shows the potential in being able to create and score but also play off the ball as well. Collins is a true offensive weapon and a tough matchup with his length, as he also shows the ability to impact the game on the glass as well.

2026 Jonathan Dzabatou (Orange Lutheran)

One of two brothers on the team, Jonathan is the older one and stands at 6’7. He shows more of a polished feel on the court, displaying his comfort level from multiple areas on the court. Jonathan shows the ability to play inside and out, scoring strong around the basket and in the paint but also comfortable operating along the perimeter. Jonathan moves well and shows good athleticism in finishing at the rim as well.

2027 Benjamin Dzabatou (Orange Lutheran)

The other part of the brother duo is 6’8 Benjamin Dzabatou, who I was really impressed with overall in this game. Benjamin was really active and brought a lot of energy to the court, moving well without the ball, finding the open spots in the defense, and showing touch and finishing ability in the paint. He runs the floor well and also surprised us with his flashes from the perimeter, knocking down one three-pointer in the contest. Benjamin competes on both sides of the court, attacks the glass well, and has a lot of potential with how he operates offensively.
