Spartanburg Christian

Court One

Day Two

Another day of Live Period Hoops is underway and there were some serious names to know Spartanburg Christian, a good mix of 16U and 17U action, let’s take a look at some names to watch moving forward throughout the AAU season.

6’1 2019 Frank Lee: Upward Stars Riverfront

Lee is a natural born athlete with a great nose for the ball.  He’s excellent at nabbing offensive rebounds that you’d think he has no chance of and is good for a highlight play or two just about every time out.  He’s continuing to work on his perimeter game which has shown great strides recently, but the best part about Lee’s game is his defense.  Lee is capable of guarding the 1-3 due to that freaky athleticism and is truly a can’t miss prospect at the D2 level if he continues to develop.  Definitely keep an eye out for him and the rest of that Upward Stars Riverfront Squad moving forward.

6’4 2018 John Thorsland: Anderson Knights

Thorslund did a great job of capitalizing on limited shooting opportunities, but displayed great touch from outside the arc to go with that 6’4 frame and great length.  Thorsland is definitely an outside first player, but he isn’t afraid to get his nose dirty on the offensive glass, doing a great job causing havoc down low and was inevitably rewarded with a few tip-in buckets towards the end of the game.  He’s the perfect D3 player that coaches should be looking for to finalize that 2018 class.  I would love to see him be featured in the offense a little bit more for this Anderson squad, he was one of the more efficient guys on the floor.

6’0 2020 Jarell McCray: Columbia Hoyas

McCray is the consummate combo guard that does a little bit of everything offensively at either guard position.  He really locks in defensively and displayed great communication and leadership skills on that end of the court.  He held his teammates accountable without being too overbearing leaving a great impression with all those watching him this morning.  McCray has a lot of potential to be a great scorer moving forward in his high school career.  I’d love to see him have some big performances over the course of the rest of the weekend, he’s surely capable of putting on a show.

6’4 2020 Tyjuwan Banks: NC Heat

Banks looks like he could be a blue chip 3-4 defensive end, but what stands out about him is his unreal touch around the basket and his incredibly refined mid-range game.  He has a beautiful shooting stroke to go with that great size and motor of a classic “shorter” big man.  If he stays with basketball he’ll need to slim up a little bit, but the tools are there with Banks.  He has crazy potential to become a scoring machine with improved footwork and conditioning so keep you’re eye on this one moving forward, he’s a whole lot of fun to watch.
