There is something about freshman Jordan Burch’s game that is different, that is special. Size, poise, pace, vision, strength, he has a unique combination.
On Saturday we took a trip to watch Cheraw HS (SC) freshman Jalen Coit, and he did not disappoint. He finished with 38 points and 11 assists in that game. He provides on-lookers special stuff. However, it is Burch who we would give the top spot in South Carolina’s 2020 class to.
Burch is a thick framed lefty, who plays with great pace. In fact Burch plays with such a good pace that he is the team’s back-up point guard. Standing at 6’5” and weighing in at a strong 220 pounds, Burch has a great skill set.
Given his stature and his game style, Burch watches a lot of Lebron. He looks closely at the way Lebron mixes his size and strength with his vision and ability to get into the lane. Despite his advance frame, Burch approaches the game from an “how can I get better” standpoint.
Burch was a standout at the prestigious South Carolina Top 80, even as one of the youngest prospects in attendance. After the event, we wrote, “Burch has a great skill set to go along with a college ready frame. He showed good vision, 3-point range, and ball handling ability. Burch’s camp coach Brandon Gaither stated, “Jordan is a strong and physical guard. He has a college body already and is able to get to the cup at will. He has elite status potential.”
Burch understands that he is not a finished product, and he does not want to stagnate in his development. He is consistently in the gym working on his game. He says his jump shot and free throw shooting are two things at the top of his list. He also keeps a conscious effort to be able to attack right, even though he is able to consistently get where he wants when he goes left.
Recently, Burch has taken unofficial visits to Wake Forest, South Carolina, and North Carolina. He plans to go back soon to watch both North Carolina and South Carolina games. Burch acknowledges there is a long way to go in his recruitment. From our standpoint he needs to go ahead and get ready because his recruitment should take a life of its own soon.
Despite his grown man’s body, Burch is still developing. Acting as Wilson High School’s 6th man, Burch finished with a well-rounded stat line last night, with 6 points, 3 boards, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Per normal, the 6’5”/220 pound freshman was the team’s back-up point guard.
Watch out, the future is incredibly bright, and it is easy to see.
