Next man up is a motto that everyone has heard and rings loudly every year. At Leesville Road, the Pride has been blessed with some incredible talent such as Carter Whitt who is at Wake Forest now, Jalen McDonald, Wesley Johnson, and others. Now, a few of those talents are gone, and like mentioned above, it is the next man up.
2023 Grady Whitt could be one of those guys. Yes, the younger brother of Carter Whitt, it may be Grady’s time to shine down the road and he has been giving us a glimpse of what he brings to the court this summer with Go Hard. Most recently at the Phenom Challenge, Whitt posted scoring outputs of 17 points and 18 points, and was impressive as well as the Queen City Showcase as well, where he helped his team make an appearance in the championship game.
Phenom recently spoke to Whitt about the work he has been putting in to prepare for the summer and future, as he continues to add different levels to his game.
“So far, it has been going well,” he said. “Really trying to show my strength in finishing and making the smart play. My biggest strength right now would be being able to get to the rim and pull-up jump shots. I am able to set my teammates up for good scoring opportunities.”
With the family ties, Whitt has been able to take advantage of learning from his older brother Carter as well, with the biggest takeaway would be his style of play as he hopes to combine a little bit of Carter’s with his.
Grady will now be one of the experienced leaders at Leesville and he is excited about the opportunity to play with players like Johnson, Hayes Oxendine, Brady Ruane, and Cole Landford. But now, it gives him an opportunity to make a bigger name for himself and it seems like he is getting an early start this summer.
