Savion Samlal 6’2 145 2025 Norfolk Collegiate School (VA) / Team Loaded 757

Savion is an elite level athlete whose combination of speed and power on both ends of the floor makes for an intriguing prospect. He has very good quickness off the dribble and slices through the lane showing great body control to finish around length and the vertical ability, strength, and creativity to challenge length at the rim and score. Shows a good burst and a solid handle to create off the bounce and also demonstrates excellent touch and fluidity shooting off one and two dribble pull-ups. He does a good job using jabs and likes to get downhill where he uses a quick and powerful burst to attack space and get to the rim. Lethal scorer in transition!

Savion makes aggressive cuts without the ball that puts him in position as a scoring threat off the ball as well and he demonstrates good mechanics and potential as a catch and shoot shooter with range extending beyond the three-point arc. His strength at this point is in the middle and his ability both as a physical and quick slasher type and a scoring threat off dribble pull-ups. He can get hot or exploit matchups and go on scoring binges and put points on the board in a hurry. Credit much of his scoring to his mid-range efficiency and his aggressiveness pursuing offensive rebounds and converting stickbacks, hunting extra points through effort! He is a very good rebounder especially on the defensive end and has a nose for the ball. His athleticism, quickness, and strength are so apparent defensively. Strong on-ball defender whose aggressive strides, long arms, and lateral quickness are key in his harassing pressure defending the dribble. He has quick hands and creates turnovers that he is able to convert into quick baskets. Good anticipations skills in passing lanes. Savion is an impact defender who stays active, brings great energy, is around the basketball, and poses a strong rebounding threat. He has a very good bounce and gets off the floor quickly. Doesn’t need time to gather and seemingly explodes off the floor with quick repeat jumps.

Savion comes from a family of elite-level athletes as his Dad and his Uncle starred in both cricket and in soccer in Trinidad. He has obviously inherited that athleticism and as you look at his chiseled and strong frame it’s obvious he puts the work in not only fundamentally but physically as well to make himself a prospect worthy of attention going forward. It helps that he is being coached up by a coach in former University of Virginia and Boston Celtics star Junior Burrough who enjoyed success at the highest levels as a player but who has also built a perennial winner at Norfolk Collegiate School (Norfolk VA) where, in his short tenure has already produced a number of college prospects. I expect Savion will join that list in due time.
