Christopher Fields, Jr 6’4 215 2023 Petersburg High School (VA) / VA Bulls AAU
Christopher is a powerfully built wing whose combination of size and strength coupled with good quickness, agility, and solid skills allows him to impact games in a number of ways on both ends of the floor. An imposing and immovable presence in the paint he can post you up and score with his back to the basket off drop steps or use a front pivot and score facing the rim showing a soft touch off the glass.
Christopher has powerful legs and once he establishes position around the rim you ain’t pushing him off his spot! He’s more comfortable facing the basket and shows a lot of versatility. He knows how to use his physical assets to simply bully most defenders and get to the rim but also uses a reliable handle and the ability to change directions nicely and generate a pretty powerful burst and beat bigger defenders with ease. Christopher uses drag dribbles and quick crossovers and accelerates so quickly off a dribble move or a hesitation he gets to the rim with impressive quickness and punishes defenders either absorbing contact or initiating contact and scoring or elevating with effortless yet explosive action for a rim rocking slam. Christopher is a good shooter and can knock down spots up from behind the arc with impressive consistency. Demonstrates solid mechanics and a fluid stroke. He uses quick rips to attack off the dribble and can also hit the pullup jumper. Impressive agility and body control, good mix of physicality and shiftiness.
On the defensive end, he has the lateral mobility to defend other stretch fours or bigs in space. He is so strong he can move opposing bigs making it difficult for them to post up or navigate the paint thus limiting their touches and productivity. He is a very good rebounder and shot-blocker showing great timing and again taking advantage of his explosive leaping ability. What a great asset having a player with his physical and athletic makeup to protect the rim defensively and also provide a scoring threat from all levels offensively. He’s a player coaches should monitor over the next couple of seasons. His energy and competitiveness, his willingness to do the dirty work all help to make him a game-changing presence. You’ll be hearing from him as his play will attract the attention of coaches going forward.
