With summer coming to an end, it is time to reflect on all the talent and players we watched throughout the months on the Phenom Hoops platform. Again, our job at Phenom is to provide a platform for players to be seen and recognized, which is what we are looking to do. Reviewing so much film and reports, our team is looking to shed light on players that college coaches should be looking at or tracking, whether they are big-time talents or hidden gems.
2028 6’1 Makhai Manning clearly left an impression on our scouts each and every time he stepped on the court, whether it was with Garner Road National or Southern Durham this summer. Manning was able to really shine as an offensive weapon, being a dynamic playmaking guard that is wire to find ways to score. He is quick off the bounce, being able to get defenders on his hip, get inside and weave through the defense, and finish well over defenders. He also does a great job in being an effective multi-level scorer, creating space for his jumper, playing with pace, and brings a strong balance in creating for others or himself. Manning methodically picks his spots, shining extremely well with the ball in his hands.
Manning has established himself as an exciting guard for college coaches to monitor in North Carolina’s 2028 class. His quickness, creativity, multi-level scoring ability, and command with the ball allow him to consistently generate offense for himself and others. As he continues to develop and strengthen his overall game, Manning has the tools to become an increasingly important name on the recruiting trail.
