With summer coming to an end, it is time to reflect on all the talent and players we watched throughout the months on the Phenom Hoops platform. Again, our job at Phenom is to provide a platform for players to be seen and recognized, which is what we are looking to do. Reviewing so much film and reports, our team is looking to shed light on players that college coaches should be looking at or tracking, whether they are big-time talents or hidden gems.
A player that turned some heads this summer was 2028 6’5 Carter Williams from Team Global Select, as he could be a breakout-type player this upcoming high school season. Williams was a newer name for us but certainly was one that impressed with his length, size, athleticism, and overall presence on both sides of the court. He was explosive in being able to finish at the rim, running the floor and looking to attack the basket. Williams just seems to be quicker than opponents, getting on the glass, creating extra opportunities, and also showing he could be effective not only in the paint but also spacing the floor. Whether it was him being a lob threat, attacking and creating off the bounce, or knocking down shots, Williams was able to be effective in a variety of areas. That doesn’t mention shining as a defensive presence as well with his overall athleticism.
Williams has the physical tools, athleticism, and versatility to emerge as a breakout prospect during the upcoming high school season. His ability to finish above the rim, attack off the bounce, rebound, space the floor, and impact the game defensively makes him an intriguing two-way player. As he continues to develop and gain exposure, Williams should be a priority for college coaches to monitor in the 2028 class.
