So much to be excited about in this young man starting with his advanced skill set and versatility to his impressive length and strong, durable frame. Martez provides positional versatility on both ends of the floor. His offensive game is highlighted by his ability to create off the bounce as he shows a good mid-range jumper and the ability to handle and get the rim with good regularity and finish through contact. Martez also has a nice spin move and shows a soft touch around the rim. He can overpower many guards and pound his way to the rim or use a quick rip and beat bigger defenders showing off his agility, ample speed, and disciplined footwork.
Martez can stretch the floor and knock down the three-pointer at a good rate in catch and shoot action. I am impressed with his ability to cut off drives and pull up comfortably off the dribble for the jumper. He can grab a rebound off the glass and lead the break and really shows intriguing potential as a point forward type. Martez can also post smaller defenders and has a very good jump hook and the ability to finish with either hand. A strong rebounder on both ends of the floor, Martez gets off the ground quickly and shows good timing for rebounds. Very efficient as an off-ball defender but can also guard multiple positions and is effective on the ball guarding either forward position.
Martez has a chance to be a special player, a game-changer! He is a must-see prospect in Virginia’s 2024 class!
