Phenom Hoop Report got back on the road once again, continuing our Open Gym Tour. Heading a little south of downtown Charlotte, we checked out Charlotte Catholic, a team that is coming off a 21-9 season and finished 13-1 in conference play.
Even though the Cougars lost some solid pieces from last year, they still return critical players that should have them competing for another 20+ win season once again. With a nice mixture of talent, let’s dive into what we saw on the court.

2020 6’4 David Pino
Pino is of the senior leaders and also one of the go-to players for this Cougars team. Earning All-Conference honors and posting 10 points and 7.2 rebounds last year, Pino’s role won’t change much but expectations may be high for this team. Pino plays all over the floor for Charlotte Catholic because of his size. He has a great feel inside and out, on both ends of the floor, and defends multiple positions. He is counted on to do a lot of the little things that allows his team to win. Pino finishes well around the rim but has no issue running in transition and stepping out for his shot. Expect another solid season from this senior.
2021 5’11 Colin Thomas
As a sophomore last year, he led the team in scoring at 13 points per game and could do the same once again for the Cougars. Thomas is an intriguing guard to watch as he plays incredibly strong, with a high IQ, and seems to see the floor very well. He can play on or off the ball, initiate the offense, or find his shot by creating separation from his defenders. Love his pick and pop, showcasing a smooth and confident jumper on all three levels, as well as his ball handling. Overall, just a fundamentally sound player.
2021 6’3 Kevin McArdle
McArdle is another versatile prospect that provides length. He has no issue stepping out knocking down three’s when the opportunity is there but also playing inside as well. Versatility is key for him and like Pino, he can do a lot of the little things for this team.
2022 6’2 Kyle Hanchard
Hanchard is still a young point guard that is figuring just what he is capable of doing. When watching him, he is more of a distributor and likes to initiate the offense but showed signs of being an offensive threat, especially with his solid frame. He still is learning the game and developing his overall feel but Hanchard should be a pivotal player for the Cougars this season.
2022 Kevin Williams
Williams will be another guard for Charlotte Catholic that will play a factor for this year’s team. Williams is a deceptive guard because he doesn’t look big but he brings really good length and there is still potential to grow even more. Williams has athleticism and looks to be more comfortable putting the ball on the deck offensively.
2020 5’10 Jack Dortch
Another senior leader for this team, Dortch plays a key role. Automatically, he is a sniper from deep and brings that outside threat for this offense. Knocking in 52 three’s last year, he will look to do the same. He also brings a high IQ as well as a vocal leader to the floor.
2020 Kevin Kullick will play down low but also as a stretch forward but when watching him, he played hard and finished strong around the rim. 2021 6’0 Kevin Dumser is another to keep an eye on for this team, as the football product could be in for a breakout year. 2023 Ben King is a freshman to watch, as he really competes on both ends and provides positive minutes to the floor.
