On November 7th, Phenom Hoop Report will be hosting our third annual High School Jamboree at Proehlific Park in Greensboro, North Carolina. Over 30 teams will be making their way to Tournament Town to showcase their talents to a plethora of scouts, college coaches, and passionate fans. After thorough review of the field, our team decided to put together a little “sneak preview” of individual players and teams that people need to keep a close eye on.
TEAM:
North Mecklenburg High School (Huntersville, NC)
HEAD COACH:
Duane Lewis
2014-2015 RECORD:
23-4 (11-3)
Last season North Mecklenburg made it to the third round of the NCHSAA 4A State Playoffs. They were solo winners of their Mecka 4A conference championship.
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Davion Mints (6’3” Senior – Committed to Creighton)
Mintz experienced quite the recruitment over the summer as he picked up over 20 offers, before finally choosing Creighton. Mintz averaged 15 points and 6 boards per game. While carrying a 4.0 GPA in the classroom, Mintz is an extremely competitive power guard. He enjoys getting downhill, and plays with a chip on his shoulder.
Jaylen McManus (6’6” Senior)
While not quite the same explosion Mintz saw this summer, McManus picked up 10+ offers on his own right. He carries from the likes of UNCW, Marshall, Charlotte, George Mason, College of Charleston, and others. McManus is a versatile defender using his length and quickness to guard multiple spots on the floor. Offensively he is great in transition, and plays well in catch and shoot situations.
Timmy Walker (6’1” Senior)
Walker made a big splash his freshman year after his performance at the NC Phenom 150 camp. He transferred to Christ School for a couple years, but is now back home at North Meck. The uber athletic Walker boasts an offer from Delaware State. Look for him to make noise with his athleticism on defense and in transition, He has been working hard on his ball skills and look for him to show them off in half court sets.
Other Notable Players
6’1 Senior Kendall Coles, 6’5” Senior Ethan Wacker, 6’2 Sophomore Vaud Worthy
