On November 7th, Phenom Hoop Report will be hosting our third annual High School Jamboree at Proehlific Park in Greensboro, North Carolina. Over 30 teams will be making their way to Tournament Town to showcase their talents to a plethora of scouts, college coaches, and passionate fans. After thorough review of the field, our team decided to put together a little “sneak preview” of individual players and teams that people need to keep a close eye on.
TEAM:
Asheville Christian (Asheville, NC)
HEAD COACH:
Andy Ray
2014-2015 RECORD:
22-9 (8-3)
Last season Asheville Christian made it to the Final Four of the NCISAA 2A State Championships.
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Jordan Shepherd (6’3” Senior)
Shepherd quickly jumped onto the radar after this same event last year. He picked up offers from the likes of Middle Tennessee St, Winthrop, Appalachian State, and others. He went on to pick up around 15 offers along the way. He has officially visited Wofford, Boston U, and Furman. Last season, Shepherd averaged 23 Points, 5 Boards, and 4.5 Assists per game while being named All State and Conference Player of the Year. Still, after all his accomplishments, Shepherd is still falling under the radar, look for that to change (again) after this event.
Chris Clayton (6’7” Sophomore)
Clayton turned a lot of heads playing with Team Vision this summer on the AAU circuit. Last season, Clayton played at McDowell High School where he averaged 12 Points and 6.5 Boards per game. Clayton is an extremely explosive hard-nosed player. He will open eyes with a few high flying dunks and grab a ton of boards and defend his position with strength and a motor. This is one to put into your SIM Cards.
Michael Steward (6’5” Senior)
Steward is the glue piece on this team. He is a long wing, who has good range and sneaky athleticism. Last season Steward averaged just under 11 points per game. The highly academic Steward carries over a 4.0 GPA and could have a long line of college suitors, at the appropriate level, after him.
