Coach Frank says: Journey Al Amin is a long, rangy wing with great quickness and athleticism. He has great bounce and is quick off the ground, strong powerful second jump as well. He is an extremely versatile player, comfortable operating both facing the rim and with his back to the basket. He is fluid running the floor using long strides, fills the lanes smoothly in transition. He has great hands and balance, excellent footwork out of the post and as he gathers himself and receives the basketball in an attempt to make a move to score facing the rim. Able to get low on the ball sweep and is very quick on a strong side drive using his long strides to eat up space quickly and get to the rim. Has an explosive first step! Journey is a rapidly developing player as he transitions to a perimeter player and doesn’t possess a great variety of moves quite yet but he doesn’t waste movement either. He has a very good handle and is capable of using a dribble move to set up his defender and drive or pull up and hit the jumper off the bounce. On the catch he is quick and decisive attacking the basket, attacks with authority, won’t hesitate to dunk on a defender. He has great hands, very good timing as a cutter/finisher. Journey has deep range and good accuracy on the catch and shoot and shows a lot of potential with his jump shot. He has a high release point and soft touch. Solid in mid-range spots. Has a really nice turnaround jumper he likes to go to out of the post and his release is so high it is difficult to contest. Journey is competitive and instinctual defensively. He gets into passing lanes quickly, breaks on the ball quickly and again he eats up real estate quickly with his long strides and long wingspan. Almost looks like he comes out of nowhere for off the ball steals. He has excellent timing as a shot blocker. He is a good on ball defender, agile! Does a great job reacting to his opponent’s initial move and maintains good defensive posture throughout a defensive series. Able to cover ground quickly to recover for blocks or to contest shots out of help defense. Journey has the look of a player, still raw but has a great feel. I’m really excited about his upside; he’ll be an impact player for the duration of his high school career and will become a college prospect as he continues to grow fundamentally and physically. He brings a lot to the court now to be excited about!
