2023 Jaydon Young continues to attract eyes
Greensboro Day has produced several products that are or have played at the next level and it looks like they have another star on their hands. 2023 Jaydon Young is a very popular name around the state of North Carolina and should be garnering Top-100 looks with his play. It is why schools like Winthrop, Virginia Tech, Texas A&M, and North Carolina A&T have all jumped out early and offered.
Phenom Hoops has seen him countless times and plan to see him some more. Recently, our own Jeff Bendel had this to say about Young after a recent game:
“It’s easy to see the appeal with Young, given the extended flashes of high-level ability he showcases as a centerpiece for this group. He runs the offense, setting up others at a solid rate and scoring the ball at an efficient rate from all three levels. Young possesses a strong frame and quick first step, which he utilizes to touch the paint at a high frequency and absorb contact as a finisher around the basket. He displays useful defensive instincts, forces turnovers at a steady rate, and makes a consistent impact in transition.”
We recently spoke with Young and it seems that he could be in for a big summer, with several high-major programs expressing interest his way. Keeping those schools close to him, it is safe to say that this upcoming spring and summer could be a big one for Young, as there are quite a few schools that will be having an eye on him.
Interest levels picking up for 2022 6’9 Cade Pendleton
Many may have got a chance to see 2022 6’9 Cade Pendleton with Team Curry this season, and with his length and upside, there are a few teams that are coming his way and showing interest. He has been a big part of East Hamilton’s success, posting averages of 13 points, 3.5 blocks, 9 blocks, and shooting 51 percent from three.
Pretty impressive stat line to along with his 3.8 GPA. When speaking to Pendleton and to the staff at East Hamilton, schools like Maryland, Iowa, and Cal have all reached out recently, along with schools like Utah, Valparaiso, Toledo, Utah State, Furman, Davidson, Princeton, Lehigh, Portland, Arkansas Pine-Bluff, Pepperdine, Boston College, Charleston Southern, Yale, and Columbia have all been staying in touch since this fall.
“(They) like my versatility of playing inside and out,” he said to Phenom Hoops recently. “Knocking down shots from three, the elbow line and baseline. Also, my improved physicality and defending the rim from last season.”
Pendleton could quickly see his stock rise and offers come on the table, especially with another strong showing this summer.
2022 Nolan Hodge adds another offer from NC A&T
Nolan Hodge from Northern Guilford is having a terrific season once again and is quietly moving up the boards in our latest rankings but also for college coaches. He added offers from Duquesne and Old Dominion last year and now has added North Carolina A&T to that list, a big offer from his hometown in Greensboro.
“Coach Hunt just reached out and was just saying about how we are from the same city and that A&T would just like to offer,” he told Phenom Hoops. “Just getting an offer from a school close to home means a lot. They have done a good job recruiting, always sending mail and reaching out.”
Hodge doesn’t just have the attention of those three schools, as he mentioned that schools like Appalachian State, Belmont, UNCG, Davidson, and Furman have all been reaching out his way.
2022 Karon Boyd having successful season at Cannon; schools checking in
Phenom Hoops has seen 2022 6’5 Karon Boyd multiple times this season for Cannon and has always impressed with the impact he has on the court. He is a do-it-all type prospect that is making an immediate impact for Cannon after coming from Cox Mill.
“I have been playing well this season,” he said. “My transition was pretty smooth. I fit in well with the team and we have built great team chemistry that helps us come out and win. There have been games where I had an off-night, where I couldn’t produce on the offensive end but I found ways to contribute to the game by using my high motor on the defensive side.”
We think this is a young man that can absolutely play at the next level and it seems schools are taking notice as well, as Boyd mentioned schools like USC Aikens, Mars Hill, Rice, Colgate, and Emory & Henry have all shown interest in his game. Communication continues with some, as Boyd mentioned that schools like Emory & Henry and Mars Hill continue to check in from here and there.
