Each and every time Phenom Hoops gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day. It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.
Here is the latest commitment.
Player: Gevonte Ware
Class: 2025
Committed to: Rutgers
“Ware has always been a physically demanding prospect with his size and frame. He has a natural feel around the basket, finishes through contact, bully opponents in the paint, and has excellent hands on the glass. But you can see that he has been putting in the work and adding more to his game, making him harder to guard. At the Fall League, Ware showed good mobility, running the floor well, showing he can push the ball in transition at times, and his comfort level in stepping out as a big was quite noticeable. He shows he can be a force on both ends down low, but gave us multiple glimpses of his ability to knock down shots from mid-range or behind the arc at times, really stretching and opening the floor more for his team.”
“The appeal should be fairly obvious as a strong, mobile 6-foot-9 big man with touch, soft hands, and the ability to reliably anchor the paint on both ends of the floor. He’s a fluid athlete who moves well for his size, runs the floor properly in transition, and understands how to produce as a low-maintenance piece within the flow of the team structure. Ware can finish above the rim or over either shoulder, and is capable of spacing the floor at a quality rate from beyond the arc. Add in his screening, rebounding instincts, and rim-protection ability, and it’s easy to see what makes him one of the top prospects in North Carolina’s Class of 2025.”
“He’s a strong, physical post prospect with touch, footwork, and athleticism, which allows him to simply overwhelm opponents on both ends of the floor. Ware rebounds his area extremely well, grabs the ball with two hands, and runs the floor properly in transition. He displays great instincts as a rim-protector and utilizes his body really well to absorb contact as an interior defender. Ware finishes well around the basket, but can also space the floor or operate as a screener in the two-man game.”
“Ware looks to be in great shape and continues to work on his body, looks healthy, and stronger than he has in the past; this all could equal a big summer for the 2025 big man. When you watch him operate on the court today, Ware brings such a strong presence with how physical he can be around the basket. Whether he is posting up on the block, stepping out and putting it on the deck to get to the basket, or attacking the glass for second-chance opportunities, Ware just has a knack for finding ways to be productive and a force down low. He has such strong hands and the ball just seems to always find a way in his hands, carving out space and bullying defenders with his size. But Ware looks like he has worked hard on his body, as he looks lighter on his feet and much more mobile, and it looks like he has been adding more to his game as well.”
