We head over to the great state of West Virginia for our latest player profile and talk, as we spoke recently with 2024 Kendrick Wilson of Greater Beckley Christian. The 6’0 sophomore guard is having a tremendous season in helping lead the Crusaders, averaging 21.1ppg, 4.9rpg, 4.7apg, and 2.0spg.  A rising talent in the state, Wilson is looking to be one of the premier talents in his state and has been proving it for some time now.

College programs are already taking notice, as he earned his first Division 1 offer not long ago and others have expressed interest.  Wilson is our latest 1-on-1 with Phenom Hoops, as we dive into more of his game, his season, and his recruitment.

Phenom: How has everything been going' Having a special season so far at Greater Beckley Christian.
Wilson: Thanks man, I really appreciate it.  Have been putting in a lot of work, glad to see it is starting to pay off. Got to stay in the lab though for sure.

Phenom: How would you best describe your game on the floor' How do you attack and what else do you like to provide for your team'
Wilson: I would say that I am a coach on the floor that likes to get my teammates involved but I also know when to pick my spots and when it is time to put the ball in the basket.  I try to control the game in different aspects such as pace, defense, and intensity.  As a point guard, it is my duty to make sure everything is flowing smoothly.  What I provide for my team is someone that my coach can depend on, whether that is to go score or make plays and buckle down on the defensive end.  I try to model my game after Chris Paul as he has been my favorite player since I’ve started playing basketball.  I study a lot of film on how he can balance scoring and passing so well.

Phenom: How has it been leading this Beckley team'
Wilson: Honestly, I can’t take credit for it all.  We have a group of guys that want to be great.  With our great coaching staff as a leader, it is all you can ask for.  We have a lot of good players that make practice more competitive. Coach Arvon puts us in great positions to succeed.  This season has been extremely fun so far because we have put the work in during the offseason.  One thing that we always preach is to never be satisfied. Never to get too high or too low on ourselves.  I’m proud to be able to say that I am part of this great group of guys.

Phenom: How has recruitment been going for you'
Wilson: Recruitment has been solid.  I have an offer from North Carolina A&T and some interests from a few other schools.  Things are starting to pick up but I have to continue working.

Phenom: What was it like to get that first offer'
Wilson: I was excited. More so to see the work I was putting in starting to pay off. A basketball player’s dream is to get a D1 scholarship. But I have great people around me that keeps me focused and motivated. It made me hungrier.

Phenom: How did you hear about the offer'
Wilson: Coach Dorsett reached out to me and my uncle.

Phenom: Do you know who else has been showing interest your way'
Wilson: ETSU, Radford, Princeton, and Marshall. I went on an unofficial to Marshall.

Phenom: How was that visit'
Wilson: The visit was great. I loved the atmosphere. I went to the football game vs. East Carolina.

Phenom: Any other visits planned yet'
Wilson: Not as of right now. Hopefully though as the season goes on.
