In today’s world of basketball recruiting, the buzz words are length and athleticism along with upside and potential. These four words are often used to describe over 80% of today’s players. That being said, we want to take a closer look at a player that keeps on producing results on the court.
5’8 ’16 PG Deshawn Patterson is the ultimate gym junkie. He’s a “gym rat” that has perfected an advanced skill set and unbelievable ball handling skills. To put it simply, he has the “ball on a string” and plays with confidence that is not often seen for his position.
Deshawn has the ability to control the tempo of the game and his ball handling and passing skills are advanced for his position. He has mastered the dribble hesitation move and has the ability to get by bigger, stronger and more athletic guards with his cross over and double cross over moves.
At the recent Phenom Hoops Summer Havoc tournament, Deshawn was instrumental in leading Brand X to the ACC 17U Silver Championship and to a 5-1 tourney record.
In the Silver Championship game, Deshawn had a game high 24 points in leading Brand X to an impressive 56-52 win over a very talented West Virginia Wildcat team. He constantly got to the rim, but was scoring from all levels and even knocked down two 3-pointers.
When he wasn’t scoring, Deshawn was setting up open teammates with timely passes. While Deshawn is not your prototypical type collegiate PG, but he has the basketball IQ, grit, savvy, and intangibles to make him a productive player at the appropriate next level.
If you follow him carefully, his teams are successful and he produces wins which is exactly what every team needs.
